Electrical Apprentice

Position Overview

OnSite Energy seeks an individual enrolled in the IEC Electrical Apprenticeship program to work in our Electrical Department performing solar and energy storage system installations and ancillary electrical service work.  Our ideal candidate will have completed 60 or more percent of their classroom and hands-on training.  The Electrical Apprentice reports directly to the Journeyman Electrician and Construction Foreman and will work adjacent to Crew Leaders, Solar Installation Technicians, and other members of the Operations team.
  
Plan and Execute Installations
  • Work with Journeyman Electrician to follow one line, site diagram, and BOMs to plan, pack, and execute installation of solar inverters, disconnects, energy storage systems, and related balance of systems. 
  • Install and bend conduit, pull, terminate, and tap conductors, interconnect inverter and battery storage systems to utility services.
  • Test and commission equipment
  • Test, troubleshoot, and configure inverters, controls, and networking equipment.
  • Review and consent to job site SSSP and JHA plans.
  • Assist with general site preparation and clean up.
  • Keep job-specific job tracking software current.
  • Document project progress and as-builts through photography and notes.
  • Provide mark ups for one line and site diagrams to Journeyman and Design Team.
  • Track all labor hours per job, classifying for prep work, travel, and electrical work.
  • Maintain an organized truck, keep tools clean, organized, and up to safety standards, and track stock materials and reorder quantities.  
  • Tally time and materials sheets and provide to Journeyman and Accounting for ancillary service work.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and coworkers on scheduling and job status
Critical Skills/Expectations
  • Must have a clean and valid driver’s record.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills in every interaction. 
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate with others.
  • Must be able to comfortably lift 40 lbs., climb ladders, work on roofs and in crawl spaces in varying hot and cold temperatures.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic construction techniques.
  • Teamwork – able to establish collaborative working relationships with peers and supervisors. 
  • Basic computer competence including Google Suite and use of company time tracking, CRM, and messaging apps.
  • Code of Conduct – act accordingly as a guest at our customer’s home.
  • Strong desire to work for a renewable energy company, and interest in developing professionally.
  • Maintain good standing with Montana IEC Electrical Apprentice Program with the goal of completing all classroom training and required apprenticeship hours within the standard four-year period.
  • Pursue Journeyman Electrician certification immediately after completing the Montana IEC Electrical Apprentice Program.

Education and Experience:
  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Current IEC apprenticeship required
  • Previous solar experience a plus
  • Driver's License (Required)

Ability to Commute or Relocate:
  • Must be located in Bozeman, MT 59715 prior to starting work (Required)
  • Work place is “In person” in and around Gallatin County, MT
