Heart of the Valley going solar

A few years ago, Kathryn Hohmann opened a January energy bill totaling almost $10,000.
Meanwhile, in another room at Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, it was so cold that water had frozen in some of the dogs’ bowls.
While the bill was due in part to a malfunction in the heating and air conditioning system, it was also startling to the shelter’s development director. That’s when people at the shelter started talking about a solar electric system.
